The Governance of AL4AnimalS
The Associate Laboratory AL4AnimalS is supported by three leading academic institutions in Portugal: FMV-ULisboa, ICBAS-UPorto, and UTAD. These universities provide governance, scientific leadership, and infrastructure, ensuring a strong foundation for advancing veterinary and animal sciences at national and international levels.
FMV – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) of the University of Lisbon is a legally autonomous academic unit dedicated to education, research, and service in the field of veterinary sciences.
With a long-standing tradition of excellence, FMV plays a central role in training veterinarians, producing impactful scientific knowledge, and contributing to public policies. It actively supports AL4AnimalS through its advanced teaching hospital, laboratories, and research facilities.
ICBAS – Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto
The Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) of the University of Porto is a multidisciplinary life sciences school founded in 1975. It offers innovative education in Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, and other biomedical fields, fostering collaboration between human and veterinary health sciences.
ICBAS contributes to AL4AnimalS through its strong research culture, interdisciplinary projects, and international outlook, bridging veterinary sciences with human and environmental health.
UTAD – University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro
The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), located in Vila Real, is recognised for its expertise in veterinary and agricultural sciences. With an eco-campus that hosts one of Europe’s largest botanical gardens, UTAD combines education, research, and sustainability.
Through its Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and associated research centres, UTAD supports AL4AnimalS in advancing animal health, welfare, and sustainable production systems.
