Meet Our Experts

My academic and professional background reflect my interest in infectious diseases in animals such as classical swine fever, feline viruses, foot and mouth disease, rabbit viruses, among others.
I graduated in 1993 from Veterinary Medicine by UTAD, Portugal, and since concluded several degrees: in 1995 the doctorate (Dr. med. vet.) by the Veterinary School Hannover, in 2000 the master’s in science (MSc.) in Tropical Veterinary Medicine by the University of Edinburgh, in 2011 the doctorate by ICBAS-University of Porto, in 2017 the MSc. in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at the Royal Veterinary College of London. In 2019 I became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health subspecialty Population Medicine.
Despite brief work in the UK as research assistant, temporary veterinary officer and clinician for companion animals, most of my professional career, since 2003, has been dedicated to teaching infectious diseases to veterinary undergraduates at ICBAS-UP.
