Alexandre Leitão

Alexandre Leitão has been a researcher since 1996, initially at the Instituto de Investigação Científica Tropical and, since 2015, at the Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária, Universidade de Lisboa (FMV). He holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine and a master’s in Tropical Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry from FMV, a Doctorate in Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and the title Agregado from the Universidade de Lisboa, through FMV. He leads the “Tropical Animal Health and Production” CIISA Lab at FMV, coordinates the thematic line “Emergent Infectious Diseases and Zoonoses” of AL4AnimalS, and is the FMV representative at the University’s Tropical College CTROP. His research focuses on veterinary immunology and infectiology, with emphasis on African swine fever, Besnoitia besnoiti, Toxoplasma gondii, and tick-borne pathogens, within national and EU-funded projects and has included PhD supervisions and the organization of scientific events.
